The quality of the results depends mainly of the number of permanent or temporary measuring stations. This paper deals with a method for the virtual densification of the network of stations. The method creates “virtual measuring stations”. It aims at improving the quality of interpolation by increasing the number of data on pollutant concentration. The virtual stations are determined by the means of a classification method applied to each pixel of the area under concern. Discriminating elements are pollutants emission classes, land cover types, urban morphological indicators created to this purpose and distance to major roads. A first implementation was made for particulate matter (PM) for the city of Strasbourg (France) using thin-plates spline interpolation method in Arcview 9 GIS. The urban space of an oasis is paradoxical, it displays traces of permanent settlement, while avoiding to calque the prints of former inhabitance. It seems that the ground anchor of buildings will be all the more durable as it has been conceived in an abstract and deterritorialised way. Technocratic urban rules are imposing road networks that overrule the ancient lattice organisation of irrigation systems once essential to the ksours. Street alignment has gradually broken free from vernacular paths. The spread of cars and of road traffic has now become a direct threat to the fragile mechanics of fluids that has ruled over a system of self-sufficient food crop for centuries. Rising individualism has set off a gradual and general collapse of kinship ties, and with it the slow evaporation of traditional irrigation know-how. Urban shape is becoming unruly with the spread of illegal land occupation, slowly giving rise to the indiscriminate proliferation of a loose and sparse urban network. The role of airports in the image of cities and their place in the evolution of urban space are described in the case of Moscow. Airports functions are changing in post-soviet Russia opened to global mobility and liberal economy. As international gates of cities and regions, they are becoming tools of promotion. It is a new challenge for airports and territorial authorities. Airports are improving their basic functions to satisfy air companies and passengers, in particular by developing merchant activities. They invested to manage railway links with the city. Together, they try to create business and commercial centers around the airports.
