<text><div><b>Pr&eacute;sentation par l'&eacute;diteur :</b></div>
&nbsp;</div>
<br />
Qu'appelle-t-on &quot;environnement&quot; &agrave; l'heure de l'urbanisation g&eacute;n&eacute;ralis&eacute;e ?
<br />

                <text>The purpose of this paper is to explain how, in developing countries, the poor have creatively appropriated risky areas where urban settlement is prohibited, resulting in territories rich in organic and unique forms, adapted to the morphological territorial conditions (slope, height, profile) and to different risk situations. In this context, it is important to present the physical and spatial characteristics of slum territories taking into consideration the ways in which they are appropriated, presented, either in a "visible" or "hidden" manner in the urban landscape as well as locating them in a territory (outskirts or urban perimeter). Subsequently, the current urban forms shall be analysed, using irregular grid configurations, in corridors, terraces, etc., as developed by slum residents in response to the demands and topography of steep terrain. In order to achieve this, several slum cases shall be referred to in: East London (South Africa), Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) and Lima (Peru). Finally, the key points analysed within this article shall be presented briefly.</text>

                <text>While a panorama view of a city is a fairly commonplace and distinguishable image it remains without critical inquiry. The word panorama was coined in 1792 to market a large-scale circular painting that gained international popularity during the nineteenth century. The panorama image is investigated through large circular paintings, engravings and etchings, and panorama photographs that extend from the daguerreotype (1839) to the vintage silver print of the Cirkut camera (1904). The panorama is examined as a historical and discursive representation of modernity and modernization to consider its conditions of production and social relations as inseparable from technological change and economic growth and development. The panorama world-view implies prosperity and progress. The modernizing cities of London, Paris, San Francisco and Vancouver provide topographical views to examine the ambitiously complex composition and scale, and structure and space of the panorama. The panorama's central permutations are recognized as a view from a high vantage point, a full force of pictorial record displaying objective fact, and an optical realm of illusionary structure. The spatial and social implications of the panorama are interpreted as successfully unifying discordant and disruptive experiences of modernity through spatially resolving the ambiguities and uncertainties of an increasingly global world. Panorama vision and space are interpreted through theoretical influences of Roland Barthes, Jonathan Crary, Michel Foucault, Henri Lefebvre and Georg Simmel.</text>

</text>

                <text>Foot trees, sidewalk and pedestrians: towards a sustainable combination ? Street trees are managed in Paris by the Green spaces office. The foot tree depends on three more offices: the Public road network, the Urban waste management and the Town planning. This shared management is more complex and challenges the ideal of sustainable development. Tree grates are risky for pedestrians and their absence increase trampling which is harmful for trees. Other arrangements like greening or planting are promoted as they could also participate to an urban greenway. But weeds mean dirt and dereliction for some people and make cleaning difficult. The Urban waste management prefers another floor covering, permeable but inert, called “stabilisé”. To set up a management which takes into account the various points of view, a coordination of the public space was created to arbitrate choices according to the use of streets and the picture weeds reflect. </text>

<br />
<br />

<text>Public spaces are made of lot of signs that take a great part in the construction of modern citizenship. Different kinds of exposed signs constitute essential means of equipment for the environments we are dwelling in and for individual persons. As some studies have stressed out the importance of emplacement and indexicality per se, we propose to switch the look and analyze the activity of workers in charge of signs placement. Ethnography of subway signs installation allows us to shed light on their invisible work that involves heterogeneous ways to treat signs. We assume that placement work enact different pragmatical properties for situated signs. According to circumstances, subway signs can be grasped as texts, indexes, landmarks, objects, part of a network and as a normative stake. For the signs perfomativity to be actualized, workers have to mobilize a composite knowledge that prioritize and articulate in situation these semiotics properties.</text>
