<text>This paper deals with the comparative approach of the riots on one hand, and the student movement on the other. If both movements are based on young people mobilization, not all the dimensions which are important in explaining the riots (social classes, ethnicity and race, generation, space, family structure, gender) are so pertinent for the student movement. The riots were indeed the expression of relegation and a profound resentment that have bought into play both ethnoracial (youth from African immigrant backgrounds, directly concerned by discrimination and racism) and social dimensions (low-income backgrounds). But the riots did not develop simply on the basis of age and class, but rather that they bring into play the urban forms (segregation) of the increasing precariousness of part of the low-income population, particularly those of immigrant origin. Segregation reinforces the interaction and the association between these dimensions, and is a favourable condition for riots because of the concentration in the space of all the characteristics which are perceived as object of discrimination and because of the best control of territory. This shift, from inequalities to discrimination, is particularly visible in some specific social spheres like political representation, labor market, police, housing, and school.</text>

Indian cities express both the invariants of universal urbanity and hindu cultural specificity. In India, as in any Third World city, urban socio-spatial organization shows disparities and socio-economic criteria seem to abolish traditional determinants. Nevertheless, the caste, prohibited in the country since 1950, has still got a role in cities' spatial pattern even though new areas are less caste homogeneous. Specific examples will point out the combination of cultural traditions and economic dynamics.</text>

Finally in Chapter Four, an estimation of ratios from population growth factors including fertility level, birth and death rates have been studied. Based on the available information, the population of Tehran until 2006 AD can be projected.</text>

<text>Intensive rural development programmes coupled with state creation have engendered the remarkable transformation of many rural communities into rapidly growing urban centres in Nigeria. Most affected are the small towns which became the capitals of the new states. Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, is one of them. Makurdi and its environs were studied to assess the land use changes that had occurred between 1967 and 1980 for which the photographs were available. The study revealed that the use of remote sensing data with particular regard to soil conditions have been insufficient or non-existent in planning urban development in Makurdi. The sub-urban town had expanded rapidly with much of the development spilling into the Benue River floodplain, which contains the best agricultural soils. The floodplain soils are vital for dry season cropping and hence food production for the town. The conversion of good agricultural land to urban dwellings and other non-agricultural uses is not peculiar to Markudi town as other newly created state capitals are equally affected. Therefore, the situation calls for loca, state and national policies on comprehensive land use planning in developing urban centres so as to protect vital agricultural lands, such as floodplain (or fadama) against other competing uses, especially in the sub-humid and semi-arid regions of Nigeria. <text>This paper presents the experience and some results in the incorporation of the concept of ambience in the studies and intervention projects aimed at environmental policies within CETESB, Environmental Company of São Paulo State. The environmental impact studies have shown, in general, a fragmented approach of human beings and their actions. These studies do not give visibility to the lives of people and their interaction with their biophysical environment and the methodologies that have emerged reinforce an analytical fragmentation of reality which in turn requires a new look. And the notion of ambience has allowed a new look, because it leads to the comprehension of these multiple dimensions that can not be separated, which confers this notion on a fundamental articulate power to understand the city and urban space in these multiple dimensions involved.</text>

<text>The field of mobility studies examines social phenomena through the lens of movement. In this perspective, societies are regarded as being constantly reconfigured as they are shaped by a series of mobile entities (capital, people, information).

This book engages critically with many of the claims and challenges of mobility studies by providing empirically rich reports of mobilities and their limitations. Instead of assuming a seamless world of flows, the volume foregrounds questions of power, inequality, and moorings as integral to the movement of capital, goods, images, practices, or people. It brings together the work of several internationally renowned scholars, who engage with these movements at critical sites.

This is the first book to provide a critical and interdisciplinary view of mobilities covering a broad range of issues rather than a single domain. The chapters deal with current and important issues, such as organ transplants, illegal migrations, urban globalization, international policies of higher education institutions, and scientific diasporas. As a whole, the book provides new insights into how power relations shape mobilities and societies.</text>

<text>Urban public space continues to be the focus of debate regarding its conceptualization and how it is designed, (re)produced and managed. Nowadays public spaces are facing new challenges conceptually and practically. This book focuses on two of them: mobility and aestheticization. Mobility and flows are considered to be key characteristics of the post-modern era. While for some scholars it means the «end of place», others are trying to re-conceptualize it by bringing together notions of space, place, mobility and identity. Still surprisingly few authors address the concept of public space in this respect. Principles of aesthetic and diverse forms of aestheticization seem to have affected urban space and culture throughout Modernity, forming a dimension where power and conflict around urban space are performed. In this book nine authors with social science and arts backgrounds from six countries discuss how these processes shape the life of modern cities, and where the social sciences should move for a better understanding of them.
