Territorialities with deeply-rooted agrarian ways of life, which is typical of societies living along the large rivers of Monsoon Asia, coexist with more recent urban practices in Phom Penh. Even though agrarian practices contributed to the slow territorial reconstruction initiated in the early 80’s, after the genocide, they are now losing out to urban practices more consistent with the image of modernity that the capital city of a newly-born country wants to project to investors and tourists.
