Le Corbusier, Auguste Perret et bien d’autres ont rendu hommage à Tony Garnier, soulignant l’atypisme de son parcours, son utilisation précoce du béton armé et, au final, sa contribution éminente à l’architecture et à l’urbanisme du XXe siècle. Outre un portfolio et une biographie détaillée et synthétique qui n’oublie pas son oeuvre de peintre, l’auteur propose l’étude détaillée des projets majeurs de l’architecte, qu’ils aient été réalisés ou pas. L’irruption des contestations dans les quartiers informels coïncide-t-elle avec 2011 ou est-elle plus ancienne ? Depuis deux ans, quels sont les changements majeurs observables dans la structuration de l’action urbaine et dans le quotidien des quartiers informels ? Peut-on identifier des signaux (même faibles) indiquant la réorientation de l’action urbaine ? Enfin, quels impacts les changements politiques ont-ils, ou auront-ils, sur les projets et programmes en cours ? C’est à ces questions que tentent de répondre les auteurs de cet ouvrage, qui s’inscrit dans le prolongement d’un séminaire organisé par l’AFD et le laboratoire LATTS (UMR CNRS 8134) le 9 décembre 2011. Only a theoretical reflection allows us to conceptualize and to survey the interrelationships, the covariations, and the retroactions in their social, temporal and spatial links. It becomes more and more necessary to formulate a theory which would convey the complexity of our field of investigation. The splitting of systems into sub-systems allows us to solve the problems we face when working on different geographic and demographic scales (e.g. social and temporal scales) and to establish some kind of correlation between micro and macro-scale studies, which otherwise remain incompatible. Demogeographers are partial to the field concerning the spatial mobility of individuals, whereas demographers do not find any satisfactory theoretical model for it. This field of study can provide us with the means to define many a system. Spatial mobility is already in itself a very complex system of moves (commuting links, intra-urban migrations, out-migrations etc.) seperately organized into no hierarchy (flux, migratory spheres), intricate sub-systems within the management system of society. The demographic components, the individual behaviours, the spatial distribution and the social structures are some of these sub-systems. The different structures and internal dynamics of each subsystem as well as their retro-active effects determine the spatial mobility of populations which creates new balances but also new tensions and pertubations. One should not substitute an intellectual speculation to the understanding and description of reality. Concepts are vague and difficult to transpose from a part of the world to an other, and the limits of the subject are indistinct. Just confining to the 15-24 young people and to demographic indicators we can observe a great diversity of situations that will strengthen in the future. To this diversity add differences inside the nations and differences in schooling, labour, marriage, sexuality, relationships, culture... all depending on gender and place, and that cannot be cut off from the social, demographic and political environment.
