The creation of diasporas has been one result of such movements of people. Increasingly in recent years emigrants have been returning to their homelands for holidays and other visits, and this form of tourism has grown significantly. The paper discusses the nature of such tourism, its links to VFR tourism, and the specific characteristics that differentiate it from the latter. Case studies of two elements of the Lebanese emigrant population are discussed to throw additional light on the motivations and behaviour of emigrants returning to their homeland in the context of tourism.
