<text>This paper deals with the influence of the municipal housing market policy on the social differentiation of the Amsterdam urban region. Local governments can try to influence their population composition by building houses of certain types in certain quantities and by their housing allocation system. Four profiles of municipal housing market policies are discerned: urban, suburban, new town and rural. The autonomy related to housing gives the municipal authorities a good opportunity to pursue an own population composition and many municipalities take their chance. The regional housing market is divided firstly in autonomous municipalities, and secondly, within each municipality, in a public and private housing sector. This division is impeding very much the mobility of the population group which is entirely commited to the public housing sector. A reduction of the municipal autonomy in favour of a regional regulation of the housing market, might cope with this problems.</text>

<text>There are a number of debates currently taking place in the 'North' that suggest that faith-based organisations (FBOs) are better placed to address urban poverty and to facilitate grassroots regeneration than the state. Accordingly, religious organisations in stressed inner-city neighbourhoods have achieved a certain level of stability and presence that make them important sites for organising residents, particularly in non-Anglo, immigrant-rich communities. Northern scholars a l so suggest that faith-based community development benefits from readymade leadership, opportunities for new leadership, and the possibility of building strong collaborations with both secular and other faith affiliations. Collaboration then becomes key in promoting successful community/ faith-led regeneration projects. In Hillbrow, Johannesburg's most demonized and stressed inner-city neighbourhood, FBOs have also become "spaces of hope" for approximately 70 percent of its inhabitants. They enable at least one mechanism through which the everyday uncertainties and insecurities of the Sub-Saharan urban may be navigated. And they create, however tenuously, a sense of belonging in this transitional, port-of-entry, neighbourhood. This may be said despite Hillbrow's diverse, and sometimes competing, faith identities which are far from being homogeneous. Still, many facilitate social and welfare services abandoned by the city council, in addition to community wide development projects. In order to reimagine the City of Johannesburg's exclusionary and 'revanchist' regeneration policies, this study will argue for a civil society involved and/ or led regeneration by embracing planning for social transformation theories and practices: A s such, in contrast to the mainstream and official understanding of Hillbrow, sites of faith-based efforts reveal an/ Other Hillbrow: an organised civil society in which their current initiatives suggest new possibilities for urban regeneration and human flourishing.</text>

<text>Architecture is now constantly confronted with the exploration of its materiality. So, we must put forward here the importance of the technological reification of architecture as an artificial system - expressed by the creation of temporalities of all kinds that affect both our perception and our meaning of architectural space. In this apparently new reality, architecture is conceived, designed and built as a transitional object: ubiquitous, sensitive and consecutively instantaneous. In this paper we will explain the technological amplification of the architectural object that, detached from the matter and sometimes even the architectural reality, is confronted with the various ambient effects it generates.</text>

<text>While Shrinking Cities are the object of a growing interest in Europe and in the United States, they remain understudied in France. Indeed, few research works have been dedicated to the topic and urban policies, at least at the national level, do not deal with this question. This situation could find an explanation in the fact that the process of urban shrinkage, in France, has not reached the point where it could get academic and politic attention. In order to verify this hypothesis, this article aims at measuring the extent of the phenomenon of urban shrinkage in France. It will try to assess whether this process, although internationally recognized, is in France as marginal as the lack of interest it creates suggests or whether its evolution could lead to a better recognition by national policies.</text>
