L’engagement dans la cité est double : construire un paradigme d’unité sociale et servir une cité singulière. Mais plusieurs questions doivent être posées : le paradigme n’est-il pas de façon sous-jacente porteur de contradictions et de conflits ? Les modèles humanistes ne seraient-ils pas aussi divers que les cités politiques qui les voient naître et opérer ? Les problèmes religieux, sociaux, économiques, avec les ruptures de l’unanimisme qui les accompagnent, ne portent-ils pas à la décomposition de l’idéal humaniste en de multiples expérimentations ?&#13;
&#13;
La cité du XVIe siècle demeure-t-elle une cité travaillée par le paradigme humaniste ou ce paradigme n’est-il pas l’objet, par les humanistes eux-mêmes, d’un travail empirique et d’une remise en cause critique ? Les tensions latentes du premier humanisme ne deviennent-elles pas alors les instrument mêmes des conflits en œuvre ? C’est ce jeu évolutif de convergence et d’antagonisme entre la cité humaniste et la cité politique que ce livre se propose d’examiner à l’échelle de l’Europe.</text>

Le haut Moyen Age languedocien sort peu à peu de l'ombre dans lequel il était plongé. &lt;br /&gt;Cette contribution fait suite à de récents bilans et s'inscrit dans les réflexions actuelles qui portent sur la gestion de l'espace et la fluidité des structures territoriales entre Antiquité et Moyen Age. Elle propose de considérer la séquence des V-VIIIe s. de la province de Narbonnaise comme une phase d'émergence et de multiplications de nouveaux lieux centraux associés à des ressorts économiques désormais plus étroits : le temps des loca.&lt;br /&gt;Cette communciation envisage également les dynamiques du peuplement régional et tente de percevoir à travers les évolutions spécifiques de différents bassins de peuplement les inégalités des expériences du haut Moyen Age languedocien.</text>
