The present doctoral thesis, "The Image of the Urban Landscape", aims to acquire knowledge of the city as a complex dynamic entity, submitted to the parameters of change and time, and the imperatives of culture. It does not pretend to analyse the city as an object, through a factual and quantified observation. It is unquestionable that the city is a material construct built on political, economical, and social parameters. However, the city is also a "mental event", acknowledged by sensory experiences within the parameters of space and time.
