Notions of Home the Caribbean Migrants in France.

The study of the Caribbean migration to metropolitan France, its history, characteristics and recent evolution, reveals a highly complex reality. This paper is the fruit of reflections on the questions of emigration, circulation and return migration between the Caribbean and France. Here the relationship that migrants living in metropolitan France maintain with the two poles of attachment within a «transatlantic space» is examined using two contrasting data sources analyzed in parallel : first, the results of a guied interview survey, and secondly, preliminary analyses of the INSEE survey «Migrations des dom» (Migrations of the French overseas Departments) (1991-1992).

L'étude de la migration antillaise vers la métropole française, de son histoire, de ses caractéristiques, de son évolution récente révèle une réalité très complexe. Ici nous abordons les questions de migration, de circulation et de retour dans l'espace Antilles-Métropole, en focalisant sur le vécu des emigrants dans cet espace transatlantique. Les rapports qu'entretiennent les migrants antillais avec chacun des pôles de cet espace de vie sont explorés à partir d'une analyse en parallèle de deux sources de données contrastées : une enquête par entretien semi-directif et l'enquête «Migrations des DOM» de l'INSEE (1991-1992).
