L'Union indienne a connu un basculement politique majeur à la fin des années 1990, un parti à composante fondamentaliste hindoue (le BJP) a pris le pouvoir à Delhi. La dynamique spatiale des deux principaux partis permet de retrouver une géographie régionale très classique, opposant les Etats du Nord à un Sud plus ouvert à la modernisation.

Geography of Elections in India, an Introduction. New Deal, Ancient Discontinuities.

At the end of the 90s, a major transformation of the political landscape occurred in Federal India. The BJP, a Hindu fundamentalist group reached the power in Delhi. Restoring the spatial dynamics of the two major electoral competitors leads to find out the very classical outcomes of regional geography in India, opposing the northern States to the southern ones, much more involved in the process of modernization.
