Description
This paper addresses general questions concerning the ecology of organizational spaces. We study a specific situation in which boundaries between market and organization are not obvious as customers circulate through the latter areas (like in supermarkets, hospitals or airports). Such a configuration raises particular questions for organizations regarding customers' attitudes and their management. The case of subway systems is particularly relevant to examine this process of shaping. Notably, the signs that equip these spaces allow us to emphasize a particular undocumented aspect: the ways graphical devices are endowed to organize order in a public space.
