Description
Based on a study of the historical definition and use of practical and theoretical spatial categories such as 'centre' and 'centrality' in a French city, this article is proposing some paths an history of space may want to follow. If Henri Lefebvre was right in suggesting this was much needed to understand cities and urban life, then possibly investigating the way notions like centre and centrality have been deliminated and operated in 19th century Lyon is a way to do it. A special attention is paid here to lay definitions of centre and centrality, as well as to those by administrators and technicians of urban disposition.
