Description
Was Malthus in the right?
What can we think of Malthus' essay published in 1798 and which pretended that the situation of the world was dramatic because of the increase of the population which was much stronger and quicker than the growth of subsistences? Today, there are parts of the world where the population is stagnant and other parts where the population is rapidly growing. But increase of population must slow down progressively in the future. The situation is not the same for the whole world; the general progress of agriculture and of technics and of foreign interrelations have changed the basic data of the problem. Nevertheless the states where the global increase of population is the highest and on the other hand the lowest individual income, are the same. Africa is the continent where the situation is the worst; at the opposite, the wealthiest countries are those where the population has ceased to develop. What are the relations between those two kinds of countries ? Are there some means to equilibrate population and resources?
