Les communautés indiennes représentent plus de 25 % de la population de la ville de Durban. Phoenix, grand township du nord de l'agglomération est le lieu de vie de plus de 200 000 Indiens, relogés il y a vingt ans par la politique urbaine d'apartheid. L'étude des paysages, des pratiques et des représentations urbaines des habitants de Phoenix permet d'analyser les mutations récentes de ces populations et leurs recompositions identitaires et citadines dans le contexte post-apartheid.

To live in Phoenix, Indian township of Durban.

Indian communities represent more than 25 % of the total population of Durban. Phoenix is one of the main Indian townships, built in the north of the metropolitan area and is home for more than 200.000 Indians, relocated by the apartheid policy twenty years ago. This paper presents an analysis of urban landscapes, practices and representations of Phoenix inhabitants and the actual transformations and recompositions of their cultural and urban identities.
