Organisers' description :
In the first seminar of the Spring 2011 GCI Comparative Urbanisms Series, Professor Bennett will discuss his new book The Third City: Chicago and American Urbanism, which examines a variety of Chicago literature, interprets the mayoralty of Richard M. Daley, and reconsiders one of Chicago’s core identities—the city of neighborhoods. This talk will focus on one of the book’s principal themes, Chicago's self-consciousness, and will further explore how this variously expressed local attribute often distorts our perception of the emergent Chicago.
Dr. Bennett’s research focuses on city planning, redevelopment, neighborhood issues, and contemporary Chicago politics.
