Description
The transition from the classical sciences to the sciences of complexity, challenged the boundary between hard and soft sciences, between the measurable and non measurable, the quantitative and qualitative architectural dimensions. The possibility to translate perceptive input in symbolic codes, change the approach to the design of sensible environments. The paper illustrate three case studies of research on Applied Responsive Devices developed within the context of the NSU at Columbia University. By taking into account the experimentations developed in the field of cognitive sciences, the methods contained in this proposal investigate the existing relationships between the perception of a specific reality and its translation into a set of elements that can be numerically manipulated.
