Analysant la métropolisation de l’espace migratoire international des Antillais, l’article analyse le déploiement simultané de stratégies d’insertion dans les grandes villes nord-américaines et d’élaboration de réseaux sociaux et commerciaux au-delà des frontières. Les dynamiques transnationales semblent répondre aux logiques métropolitaines de segmentation socio-spatiale révélées par les expériences antillaises aux États-Unis. La forte métropolisation des champs migratoires caraïbes aux États-Unis amène en particulier à s’intéresser à deux pôles majeurs d’attraction – New York et Miami – dont les logiques internes de distanciation sociale et spatiale engendrent un relatif cloisonnement des espaces de vie, auquel les migrants tentent d’apporter des solutions par l’élaboration de stratégies sociales transnationales ouvrant de nouveaux horizons.
The paper focuses on the metropolization of the West Indian international migratory fields and explores immigrants’ strategies of insertion in North America’s big cities and the making of social and business transnational networks. Transnational dynamics seems to be connected to metropolitan sociospatial segmentation revealed by West Indian experience in the United States. The strong metropolization of Caribbean migratory fields in the United States raises the question of social and spatial distance within two major immigration places – New York and Miami. It also deals with its implications on urban isolation reconsidered by transnational social strategies.
