Description
Madrid: the influence of public housing built under Franco on the present social structure.
During Francoism, essentially from 1955 to 1965, public authorities tried to solve the Madrid urban growth problem by building social housing. They are very different in nature and localization. One can study their influence on the present-day social structure of the city, well known with recent factorial studies. They have a secundary role in the centre, but important in the peripheral districts, especially in the transformation of the traditional suburbs and in the formation of the great working-class crescent in the southeast. In other zones, this role is difficult to interpret, at least at the scale of the neighbourhood.
