L’article met d’abord en parallèle la conception naturaliste du paysage avec le paysage urbain. Les caractéristiques principales du paysage urbain nocturne sont ensuite relevées en s’appuyant sur cinq citations littéraires et de science humaine ayant deux métropoles pour cadre géographique, Tokyo et Paris. Les expériences paysagères sont ensuite interprétées dans une perspective de géographie humaniste qui replace les cinq extraits choisis (de Kenneth White, Shiina Makoto, Julien Green, Emile Zola et Pierre Sansot) dans leur contexte biographique et existentiel. Les perceptions du paysage sont appréciées selon une logique qui va de la topophobie à la topophilie. L’article conclut sur la nécessité d’incorporer la dimension céleste et cosmique pour envisager un paysage urbain nocturne.

The article first draws a parallel between the naturalist conception of landscape and the urban landscape. The main characteristics of nocturnal townscape are then highlighted by building on five literary and human sciences quotations having two metropolises as geographical frame, Tokyo and Paris. The landscape experiences are then interpreted from a humanistic geography perspective which replaces five chosen excerpts (by Kenneth White, Shiina Makoto, Julien Green, Emile Zola and Pierre Sansot) in their biographical and existential context. The landscape perceptions are analyzed according to a logic which goes from topophobia to topophilia. The article ends on the necessity of incorporating the celestial and cosmic dimension to envisage a nocturnal townscape.
